How To Get Digg Readers to Love & Hate You at the Same Time

by Brad Isaac on October 26, 2006

Here’s an interesting story for you.  Last night I was minding my own business, clearing my inbox when an email arrived alerting me that someone had dugg one of my articles.   (My blog auto-notifies me of diggs.)   “Cool!” I thought.  I read the email to see someone named webtech had Dugg my 10 Steps You Can Take To Guarantee Failure article.  Thanks webtech!

This morning when I woke up, I wasn’t even thinking about Digg.  But when I checked into the site to post, I saw about 9,000 visitors had already dropped by.  Nice! When I followed the link back to the post on Digg this morning, I saw a whole lot of negativity in the posts there.  Many were attacks on the article, my site and me as a person.  Not everyone was being negative, some logged positive comments too.  But many had a very negative slant.

I bring up their negativity to make a point.  No matter what positive change you want to build for this world you will get people who complain, argue and are downright rude in response.  But the good news is, you can take it!  Just because some people can’t see beyond the noses on their own faces doesn’t mean you have to quit.

This site isn’t here for the chronic complainers and attitudinally dysfunctional anyway – so what does it matter what they say?  I built this site for those who see their futures as bright, fun and prosperous. I want Achieve-IT! to be your daily source of reinforcement and support in the pursuit of your goals.

So to get Digg readers to both love and hate you at the same time, simply write what you write best.  And write it from the heart.  If it gets on Digg, some people will love it, others will hate it. In an audience of that size, you can’t please them all.

P.S. Feel free to Digg this or any other article you find on this site ;)
