I have a 98 civic, standard transmission, and I get higher mpg than the automatic transmission. Not to mention that it cost less brand new. You can also get a higher milage with a stick shift car. I knew about the ditching weight tip, but didn't think about again until I went to the site. A peek in my trunk revealed my golf clubs, a heavy LCD mount, and a box of electronics i cleaned out of my office. Eric, while I agree it is some simple stuff, a reminder here and there never hurts. Unfortunately, it's pretty much stuff I already do. I keep my tires inflated, use the right oil, curb aggressive driving (although I live in New Jersey, so sometimes that's not optional), combine trips, and "drive smarter" around town. About the only tip out of 6 that I haven't done is get rid of some weight, although except for the back seat in my minivan, there isn't much left to jetison. I think this site is pretty much written for "morons", who have never given any thought whatsoever to fuel economy. Thanks for the tip, Brad. Unfortunately, it’s pretty much stuff I already do.
