How to use Googles new Content Network bidding tool

by Brad Isaac on November 23, 2005

When I logged into my AdWords account this morning I found a new surprise I had been hoping for. Google has now separated the search and content bids so you can choose how much you’re going to bid on search terms versus content terms. What this boils down to is if I want to bid $.50 to display an Adword ad on the Google search I can choose a different bid (lower) for the adsense content that you may see on other blogs. Before they added this, it was a huge hassle to get a different bid for Adsense content than Adwords. You had to create another campaign basically and drop all of your keywords into that campaign and click that it should be sent to the network and just hope that your network bids weren’t outbidding your Google search bids.

I am sure this is all confusing to a novice AdWords user. So be happy that they have added this new feature :-)

Here’s the basic primer on how to use it (click images to make them bigger):

As you can see in the picture when you go into your campaign settings, there is a new option to the right side of the screen. You can now not only to use Google search and dad in the search network, the you can choose the content network separately. If that wasn’t good enough on its own, you can now choose different bids for your content network adds! I am going to try checking all for just to see what happens today.

To edit your bids for the content network, go in to your individual campaign and under the search total there will be the content total. Click on the edit link

You are probably used to this screen, I will only point out the you can set your content bid to what ever you like and then hit save changes to complete.

Pretty neat huh?
