I was writing my name inside the front cover of my Moleskine notebook yesterday when I noticed the “Reward if Found” area. This reminded me of a leveraging technique we can use to add some motivation – “umph” to your goals and life plan. What you do is place a higher than normal “reward if found” on your Moleskine, PDA (I use Achieve-IT! for my goal setting), or cough…bar napkin where you have written your goals.
Placing a very high reward on your goal capture device accomplishes a great leveraging feat. It challenges you to devise a great plan! If suddenly your notebook was worth $500 if lost and somebody found it, wouldn’t you be motivated to write a $500 success plan in it today? What kind of plan could you come up with if suddenly the plan itself was worth several hundred dollars? I would argue you probably wouldn’t simply make a list and then never look at it again, it’s simply too valuable now. Wouldn’t it be weird if someone found your goal capture device and it only had a short grocery list of goals in it?
No, it’s much better to devise and craft a solid plan – worth hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to you.

If I’m going to spend a whole $10 on a Moleskine notebook (yes, I’m a very stingy person), I already want whatever I put in it to be worthwhile.
But yours is an interesting idea, and one worth cogitatin’ on.
