Eat Crust First!

by Brad Isaac on March 15, 2006

A few weeks ago I noticed while my daughter was eating a piece of bread and butter, that like me, she was eating the crust first.   There isn’t a lot of my traits she has picked up from me, but this one is definately mine.    My wife doesn’t eat crust first, neither does my son…only I do.

Since I first noticed she was taking after my way of eating bread, it has become one of our special "things".  We eat crust first because we know something other people don’t.      We know if we get the crust out of the way, there is a whole lot of good buttery soft bread in the middle to enjoy without having to taste less-than-desirable crust.

I guess I could go into how we can apply this same concept to our work (i.e. getting work out of the way so we can enjoy fun time free of worry about stuff we haven’t done.)    But it’s my guess you get the point.

I like the metaphor – get past the things you dislike so that you can really savor the things you enjoy. However, when it comes to bread and crust, I come down strongly on the crust side. I love the texture and taste of crust!

:) Might be tough eating the bread out of the middle and eating crust last.. It will surely entertain others in the restaurant tho’

It’s not hard eating the middle of the bread first – fold it in half and go at it.
