I was doing some clean up on my computer this morning when I
uninstalled Skype because I have been using GTalk for my online calls.
Coincidentally, I got an email seconds later announcing that Skype was
giving away free calls to landlines and mobile phones for the rest of
the year. I guess I’ll be reinstalling to give it a try!
"If
you’re in the US or Canada, you can use SkypeOut to call any landline
or mobile number in both the USA and Canada for free. If you’re in the
US or Canada and calling any other country, OR if you’re in any other
country and calling landline or mobile numbers in the US or Canada, the
standard SkypeOut rates apply."

For me, the landline calls worked first time out..but I read some people are having headaches because the landline calls weren’t working unless you bought credits. Not sure why that is happening, maybe if you install over an old version it holds a cookie or something?
It also appears there are quite a few IPs that don’t work Or it could be that a port is blocked on a home router or something.
Cool, thx for posting. You know that the LD companies are shaking in their shoes since Skype is doing this.
