by Brad Isaac on June 2, 2006

Ai1353I am happy to announce I’ve released a new version of Achieve-IT! goal setting software into the wild.

This new version introduces a new brainstorming wizard which makes entering goals much easier and faster.  It also helps you to organize your thoughts and projections for goals you want to achieve in the first year, 5 years out, 10 years and beyond.

Then you can use the handy buttons underneath the calendars to quickly sort and work with each time period.  Click the picture for a better view.

This version also fixes a few bugs like moving goals between categories and a freeze that could occur when returning to the Home screen from the Plan of Action.

Brad,

Thanks for working hard at improving this wonderful software.

a couple quick questions:
1. IF not already, will you plan on supporting import for other softwares? Some how, when I sit right infront of Achieve-IT! and intended to type whatever comes to my mind, it is not as productive. If it is capable of importing, perhaps while working somewhereelse and things comes to mind, I can capture those thoughts and import them into Achieve-IT! later.

2. It is great to have the brainstorm wizard now, I am wondering if it is possilbe to, once our goals are entered in the one year, 5 year, ten years, lifetime time frames, if its possible to have these respective goals listed/categorized under their respective time frame within Achieve-IT! If I am not missing anything, currently, it puts every goals entered together. Just would be nice to have them listed separately.

Thanks again for your great work.

John,

1. First on the horizon is Pocket PC syncing. Hadn’t thought of importing from text or anything. What were you wanting to do.

2. Currently, if you go to the home screen you should see 4 new buttons under the calendar. You can use them to sort goals for each time frame. :)

John June 5, 2006 at 3:29 am

Brad,

Thank you for the reply/post. I see.

1. Say, I am at a different computer away from my lap top/one that I have Achieve-IT! installed (plus, I don’t have a Pocket PC, but a Palm), and working away on other unrelated stuffs, but then certain light got turned on, and juices of new goals are flowing through my mind; I would like to capture these goals in MS word or other text formats and then later import them into Achieve-IT! Hope I make sense here. With the interest of saving time, just thought that a way to import from other text softwares would help.

#2. I see. Don’t know why I didn’t see that untily you mentioned these four boxes. I restart Achieve-IT! and there they are. Miracle do happens -). Thank you for pointing that out. That’s exactly what I was hoping for. My hat off to you.

Regards,
John

Senthil,

Purchased the software because of its simplicity, not that it is not effective. On the contrary, it is very effective. I am too relatively new to Brad’s blog, but upon seeing Achieve-IT! desk top version, I just knew it is for me. Its simplicity got me sold. I am glad Brad is improving its capability.

I also like the fact that I can export to OutLook. That was another big thing for me. Granted, I don’t know much about other goal setting softwared, but I don’t think you can go wrong with this software. I have enjoyed it and no regret about my decision purchasing it. Wish you the best while deciding.

John

Hi,

A question – if I have a goal already in Achieve-It, how can I get it into the yearly categories without completely re-entering it? I don’t want to do this because I have entered quite a bit of text into the benefits and pitfalls sections already.

If I open the program I do see the categories buttons. However, if I then click on manage, or one of the other buttons, then go back ‘home’, I no longer see them. Is this a feature that has yet to be programmed?

Lots of good progress being made! I look forward to each new release to see what you have debugged/added!

Hello Brad,

I know you are taking care of your son right now and taking a much needed break. I am just going to leave this quick note here and when you can, then I will hear from you.

Now I know why I didn’t see those four time line boxes under the second calendar when I was in “Home”. Don’t know if its just me or happens to someone else too, but those four boxes would only appear when you first open Achieve-IT!. If I opened the software, and went onto something else, say, “Refine” or “Define” and then come back to “Home”, those four boxes don’t show up anymore. If I close the software and restart it, there they are again. Don’t know if this is intentional or just a glitch or is it just my PC. Whatever the situation maybe, your thoughts on the matter would be appreciated (when things with your family are back to normal).

Regards,
John

Hi Brad,

Glad to hear that your son was getting out of the hospital. Even though that may be a big relief, I’ll bet you have much to take care off at home. So I will just leave you another question and kindly respond to it when you can.

I was adding more goals with benefits and potential pitfalls using the wizard, I realized that as long as I don’t us the refine wizard for the new goals, they would appear in the over-all goal list. But as soon as I follow up the process using the refine wizard, when I am done, the new goal don’t show up in the over all list any more. But if I directly click on the “Refine” tab and click on two blank spaces below the last shown goal, then the benefits and pitfalls of that las goal I was working on show up, but without the goal. If I reword the goal (from memory), then that last goal which I was working on shows up, and now I have two identical goals, some times three identiacl goals linked to the same benefits and pitfall details. I thought I could delete one or two of these identical goals so that I would just have one, but doing so, I lost everything tied to that goal, and left with nothing to show.

Is this a known issue or is it just me? What can I do to correct the error?

Thank you very much for your excellent support.

Regards,
John

Thanks for the feedback guys.

First, I found the disappearing buttons problem and it’s fixed

Rod, dunno why I didn’t think to add that option to the refine wizard for legacy users. But it’s on the list to do today.

John, the sync with text file is something I am thinking through. It’s easy enough to pull in a text list or something, but to say refine a goal in that list using a text file becomes a different story.

I think the problem you describe with goals not showing up in the FULL list view will be fixed when I update the refine wizard to incorporate what Rod mentioned above.

Thanks again guys for using Achieve-IT! and helping me make it better. :)

Brad,

Thank you. Will be looking forward to the update versions then.

John

I have a doubled start bar, and on first part of the UI is under it.

m. June 14, 2006 at 3:58 pm

The missing word is “run” – on first run, part of the UI is under the start bar. Sheesh.

June 14, 2006 at 10:41 pm

ahh..Ok,what should fix that is for you to decrease the window size and then immediately exit the program and re-launch it.

Hi Brad,

I made a comment about a password issue in the survey thread. Looks like I made the comment in the wrong place. Sorry about that.

The problem I found is thatI enabled the password protection. When I went to log in, I entered my password (hit shift & tab trying to put the focus on the Submit button), then I hit the Enter key and got a screen that showed some of my goals.

June 14, 2006 at 11:31 pm

ok, thanks. I will take a look. :)

John June 28, 2006 at 4:22 pm

Hello Brad,

Just wondering if, currently, there is a way to have a date and time stamp when we enter our goals? If so, how may one turn that on? If not, would that be a posibility for you to add to the software?

John
