Any WordPress Masters Out There?

If you are reading this then you know the Achieve-IT! blog has a new format.  It’s on a new server with a new design and format.  Do you like?

I have a problem though.  The old permalinks did not transfer correctly from the old Typepad blog to the new WordPress blog.  :(   This means that search engines and other sites who have so graciously linked to Achieve-IT! in the past end up sending people to the old blog.   Even if they click the permalink from the old blog and it points to the new blog, visitors get a 404 error.

I’ve tried editing the redirects in the .htaccess file.  I’ve tried some of the Javascript redirects on the old typepad blog, but they aren’t working for me.

So if you or a friend of yours knows how to do a Typepad to WordPress migration where the permalinks remain functional, will you please let me know?  I’ll be happy to pay for the service or slide you a copy of Achieve-IT! software for your trouble.

I don’t know if this would help at all but it might. When I recently migrated my blog from Blogger (hosted on my own server) to Serendipity, I discovered that my host was caching the .htaccess file for anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour. Any time I made a change, I would have to wait for the cache to refresh before my new settings took affect. This could be why your .htaccess redirects were not working (it was for me). Don’t know if I helped but I wish you the best of luck figuring out your problem. By the way, I love the new site design.

Thanks John,

I hadn’t considered a delay on the htaccess file. Basically when I made a change it always went to a hard 404 error immediately, so maybe you’re on to something.
