First Impressions of Internet Explorer 7 Release Candidate 1

by Brad Isaac on September 9, 2006

I was looking for a driver over at Microsoft.com when I noticed IE 7 Release Candidate 1 has been posted for download.   I had tried beta 1 and 2 of Internet Explorer 7 and liked them just fine.   So I went ahead and grabbed it.

It was an easy install.   It verified that I wasn’t pirating XP and then ran through the install process.   Reboot, and I was on my way.

The first observation is it is so much faster than any other versions yet.   :)   Speeding up the browser is nice.   The next item that really is nice is the way it handles RSS feeds.   The ease of adding a new feed is just a button click and the feeds look darn pretty while reading them.   There is even a “category” breakdown of each feed if you wanted to browse just by category.   Very nice.

I do wish the Links and buttons bars were a little smaller.   They seem huge on my laptop.   But hitting F11 and going into full screen mode is great.   The way the toolbars drop down is slick.

Like Firefox, there are now a number of addons and plugins you can get for the browser.   There certainly aren’t as many as Firefox has, but we can expect the number to grow.

If you’ve tried IE 7 RC 1, what do you think of it so far?

Yes, it’s fast. I was able to crash it though by trying to download linksys wireless card drivers

I like it. Firefox is still my primary browser, but IE7 RC1 isn’t bad. Microsoft is finally starting to understand the point to tabbed browsing.

Eric, like you FF is still my primary. I do like IE 7 but did have some problems with the layout. found it a bit challenging to find bookmarks
