Today is my birthday. This is one of those “landmark” birthdays where people say “there’s no turning back now!!!” As if at any other time in my life I could turn back the clock!
Turning 40 hasn’t been so bad. Turning 30 in comparison was much worse for me.
Before I turned 30 there were so many things I thought I’d have carried out before I hit thirty. I simply hadn’t accomplished as many of those goals as I had hoped. So I felt like I was hitting the 30 landmark (at least partially a failure).
At forty, I feel strangely at ease with my place in the world. I’m in pretty good shape. Being happily married with two kids who are bright and healthy is a blessing. I’m lucky enough to have good friends and family who care enough to celebrate me turning 40 even when doing so is so humbling I have trouble putting it into words.
If there is a change at all, I would say I feel like at 40 there is almost an acceptance from some of my older peers that finally I am one of them.
It is as if now I can relate better than I could 24 hours ago.
I heard hitting 40 was when people started to make the bulk of their money and improve their well-being. Money being a result of not hopping from one opportunity to another. At 40 or shortly thereafter, you get a tired of chasing rainbows and settle down with the skill you’ve made the most of your money with so far.
Well-being after forty comes from knowing a little more about how the world works and not worrying so much about the small stuff.
Overall, things might be a little less stressful and a little more lucrative.
That’s the theory anyway…
So, as I turn 40, I am hopeful.

Brad,
Happy Birthday! May your 40′s be a time of great joy and prosperity.
I’ve got a little more than a year to go before hitting 40 myself and look forward to some of the less stressful prosperity which is waiting for me on the other side.

Thanks for the birthday wishes!
Brad – I know it’s almost a week late, but I don’t always read my feeds immediately.
So, Happy Belated Birthday! I’ll be turning 41 next month, and I can tell you that 40 is actually not bad at all. Here’s to many more birthdays for you with each one getting better than the one before!
Thanks Ricky, I can relate to the feedreading tardiness. I think it comes with old age. lol
Happy birthday in advance to you!
Happy Birthday Brad, albeit a little late. This newsletter didn’t hit my inbox until November 22.
I already turned 40 — fifteen years ago. You’ll find that things just get better and better. Expect them to. You can let me know in fifteen years if I was right.
