Back in September I posted a little blurb about the Aerogarden - a new gadget that sits on a tabletop and grows literally ACRES of fresh herbs and vegetables. Well, maybe not acres, but it’s supposed to produce enough… say… lettuce to feed 2 people salad for 6 months.
I thought this would be a great addition to my office because it produces a lot of light and I like more light during the winter months. I also liked the idea of having fresh basil for pesto, dill and chives for potatoes and I put parsley in a lot of recipes.
Well, I used my Amazon credit to purchase one of these. Yes, thanks to my readers who support this site by clicking my Amazon links before they purchase something from there, YOU bought me the Aerogarden. So thank you! It is a great early birthday gift!!
I thought you might want to know some first impressions – my day 3 Aerogarden review…
First, it is bright. Not as bright “as the sun” as one critic said. I have it off on the left side of my desk and do not feel distracted by it glaring into my eyes or anything. I will say this though. It’s not a warm, soft light. So it’s not the type of light you’d use to set a mood. For me, though, it’s just fine.
Sorry for the low res camera phone image
Set up took me about 15 minutes because the timer instructions seemed confusing. They aren’t confusing if you remember one thing. The time you plug in an Aerogarden is the time it will come on every day. After that, it shuts off in 16 hours (or whatever the vegetable requires in sunlight).
On day 3, just like clockwork, the basil started to sprout!
It is also quite a conversation piece. Since many haven’t seen one of these in person, they stop by often to see what it is. Once they see it’s a garden, then they want to come back to observe the progress.
So that’s day 3 if you have any questions, let me know below in the comments…

I saw this areogarden review and so started looking for more information. This looks like a great gift for my folks, but I don’t want to put that much money into it without some idea of how long it might last.
