Baking a pie from scratch, boosting creativity & Twitter seminars

by Brad Isaac on October 25, 2009

Today I was in the mood to try something different.

I’ve known from years of experience that by trying something new and having fun, creativity surges. Even if you fail, by trying new things, you get out of your world and into the unfamiliar.

So today, I decided to try baking a pie from scratch. A pumpkin pie, in fact. Funny thing is, I don’t care for pumpkin pie all that much. But as I’ve said about a million times, it’s the journey.

If you’d like to follow my progress and make your own pie, I will be posting the recipe and my updates on my Twitter stream today. Feel free to heckle me along the way if you like.

I am pretty hopeless and helpless with baking but I know I enjoy cooking. Sometimes I feel as if my day is going at its worst. And the thought of preparing dinner for the family wears me down even further. Yet, when my fingers start to dig into the ingredients and especially raw fresh meat, spices and all, it’s like it sends shockwaves of creativity back into my head and I become awake again. I think anyone who needs a boost of energy and creativity ough to just go into the kitchen and cook something from scratch just you are doing now. Sorry I missed your baking tweets. I do not like pumpkins…..the cutting part. Love the taste after it’s cooked though. How did it go?

Pumpkin pie is one of my favorites. My mouth was watering while reading.

I love all things sweet, like my cat, daughter, and wife. Those are the best sweets.

I read this thinking about Carl Sagan -”If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe.”.
Pointless to say I’m a bit disapointed;-) Was it good at least?

Believe it or not I think of Carl Sagan often when I think of pie now. Such a great video.

Yes, the pie was good. Not overly sweet but definitely worth eating.
