Ok, Here’s what I did the first day. There are 6-7 different strategies in the Day Job Killer book itself. So first, I wanted to tackle the “Googlecash” hack method he described in the DJK sales letter. For those who never heard of Googlecash, here’s the story…
Googlecash at its peak was the true “lazy” way to make money on the Internet. In 2004 you could place an Adwords ad and pay .15-.30 cents a click and link directly to the affiliate sales page for the product you are promoting. Affiliates paid out an average of $30 a sale for ebooks and it took an average of 50 clicks before someone would buy.
So do the math: .30 x 50 = ~$15
For a measly $15 you would make $30.00 give or take. You’d double your money for just one product. Google eventually grew tired of this, so they did a “slap” to this type of Affiliate and raised the bid prices on these ads to $5 or more. As you can see, the math becomes a tad less attractive – just a tad So at $250 to make a cool $30 became a losing proposition.
Personally, I came into the Googlecash method waaaay late. I got in 2 weeks before the slap. So for 2 weeks, I did see how revolutionary this method was and saw some handsome profits.
Chris, the author of Day Job Killer claims “I had to reinvent the “Google Cash” method of affiliate marketing to have my first $5,000 day, and I was forced to call several “gurus” out personally to even get their attention for just a second…”
So I purposefully didn’t put a lot of thought into it, I just used his method and picked two products to promote based on the advice in the book – I haven’t tried either of them. One is The Rich Jerk (a $9.95 eBook with a hilarious marketing method) and the other is ErrorKiller which is registry cleaning software. I wanted to see if eBooks outperformed software or vice versa.
I followed his directions to the “T” placing an ad the way he said, bidding on the keywords the way he said, using the keywords he said.
Here are the results:
Now what would you do at this point? Accept the $5 bid? Pack up your tent and go home? I tried it for a different campaign and the results were an immediate $10 per bid to get started.
I know some tricks around this, but will the average reader of the book know? My guess is they wouldn’t. So right off the bat, this first method is not for beginners.
With that said, we can stay the course and see what happens if we accept the $5 bid price. shh…don’t tell my wife!
After accepting the bid, I’ll make a change to my Adwords ad and see if I can drive down the price some.
Here is the before (~$5.00 per click)

See the change? Two ErrorKiller words increase the Ad relevance. This isn’t mentioned in the book. But by doing it resulted in a new cost per click charge of $1.00. So we are already deviating from the book’s method. However, this tweak does get me on the first page of Google results.
Ok, the others must have used the other strategies in the guide as well. I will give them a shot and you’ll be able to see the results in my next post.
A concerned reader pointed out I might want to do an affiliate link to Day Job Killer to recover some of the costs of this project! I don’t want to link to it unless it works. Instead, I’ll link to a stuff I wholeheartedly recommend.
Keyword Elite has helped me locate loads of niche Adwords keywords. Keyword Elite’s sister software SEO Elite is a great tool for getting your site ranking up in Google. Within 1 week of using it, my domain smartgoalsoftware.com went from page 2 to page 1 – 5th position for the highly relevant search term goal software on Google. If you do decide to buy either Keyword Elite or SEO Elite from my affiliate links, I’ll throw in a copy of Taskblaze Pro software to say thanks for your support (please allow 24 hours for delivery).

Not sure where the reinvention bit comes in?! – direct linking and dircet linking on product/brand names or model numbers is nothing new……… but as you show you are still being ‘googleslapped’ with high minimum bids – great post though, be interested to see if results improve with the ‘other techniques’.
Brad,
Thanks for the very detailed review! I’ve gotten a lot of very hyped-up information about this product and only you and Dennis Becker (author of ’5 Bucks A Day’) have had the integrity to discuss the practicle application of this information.
You’ve provided a great value to me with this results focussed analysis.
I’m checking out Glyphius right now!

I’m happy to do it. Currently, I’m testing his “Leveler” technique which is much more involved and time consuming and significantly more brazen.
I feel like washing my own mouth out with soap testing this method.
Ah… you’re a good man, Brad! I hadn’t hoped on seeing someone who is actually giving honest opinions on DJK. I’ve personally lost a lot of money with this guide… esp. with the Amazon.com techniques outlined there. Hmm.
Keep the progress charting coming!
Cheers
I feel you Hank, I feel you. Sorry to hear you lost a lot of money. I guess the danger is high because the % commish from amazon is low, the profit margin is wafer thin and LOTS of people they now compete for the ads after buying DJK…… Anyway, you are not the only one who loose money, see here: http://www.scam.com/showthread.php?t=22687
I think Google may cause inflation.
All what needs to happen is ebook sellers need to quintuple their prices, and then make a note that says: Due to google manipulating the market prices, we need to raise our prices. please contact google to lower our prices.
